Grooves of the Human Anatomy

Hasselblad 1000F/ Ilford HP5 Plus 400 Speed/ 120 Film

11″ x 14″ Prints

Inspired by a fascination with ancient Greek sculptures. Individually processed in the dark room using dodge and burn techniques and various light exposures per print. Photographed subject in home created studio. To pose the subject into intimate yet dignified positions was the challenge. I photograph candidly; thus to pose the subject into an intentional position that I have choreographed into my mind was a different, yet welcoming, approach to photography I had never explored. Post production amounted to hours in the dark room of trial and error creating endless test strips, applying longer exposures and stronger filters to make the “blacks” black and “whites,” white while accentuating every muscle groove.

“Your hand opens and closes and opens and closes. If it were always a fist or always stretched open, you would be paralyzed. Your deepest presence is in every small contracting and expanding, the two as beautifully balanced and coordinated as bird wings.” ~Rumi
